Back Door Tavern Reviews

Reuben sandwich was really good. Surprising the number of locals hanging around on a Tuesday afternoon. Fun play with a cassette player and 'name that tune'

Great neighborhood tavern. They usually have a nice variety of beers on draft as well as large selection of bottled micro brews. Their food is also very good with featured special daily. Their bar is separate from family dining.

In a State that prides itself with its Bar & Grilles you have to be pretty special to stand out... The Back Door Tavern definitely stands out among the millions of other local places and this is why we decided to stop by for dinner. There is lots of space in the bar if you wish to dine there but we decided to sit in one of the spacious dining rooms available. After a few minutes we had our orders in and time to take in the ambiance of the dining room. Our observation time soon was cut short upon the arrival of our appetizers and as soon as they hit the table, we dove in. We got the pretzel, pizza rolls and onion rings to start of the night properly. All our appetizer items were fresh and delicious and set us up for the main attractions. My wife got the fish sandwich and I went with the sausage sandwich both of which were huge. The fish was cooked perfect, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. My sausage sandwich was also cooked perfectly and smothered in red bell peppers. Overall the ambiance was very nice, the service was very good the food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable for all that you got, Aloha

This is a local spot with lots of drink and food options. The staff are very friendly. The portion sizes are huge and for the price, totally worth it. Ice cold beer on draft. It is cool that the serve the true blue Pittsburgh sandwiches. I was not overly impressed with the taste of the food. It is pretty salty overall. Also they were out of mac and cheese and calm chowder on a Friday night when I was there so I was sad about that. Plenty of parking in back. Not long wait times due to the size of the place.

Best place to get real Pittsburgh cuisine. Get a Pittsburgh sandwich, but know that "whole" means 2 giant sandwiches. "Half" means one giant sandwich. Eitger way, it's better than Primanti's. If you visit often, ask for a personalized beer list and get your name on the wall.

Giant portions of everything, phenomenal fish, very kind staff. Good variety of craft beers as well

Have I said before how much I love this hole in the wall? I really have never had a bad meal here, no kidding. It's typical bar type fair but damn it's good. I always seem to order a cup of chili to start. Then I'm usually ordering a burger or fish. But I've had numerous other things here and have never been disappointed. One plus too is that all the folks working there Have always been nice as well. Our server tonight has been there ever since I started going here about 20 years ago. She's just as kind as day one. Oh, did I mention the beer list? Great draft and better yet bottle selection. Don't expect however much from local beers but still decent.
